An article in Sunday’s Oklahoman metro/state section written by Nate Robson on May 31st, 2015, grabbed my attention: “The state’s number of homeless students continues to rise.” This surge has even raised the alarm of lawmakers in Oklahoma. Mr. Robson states that this is a trend that is seen all across the nation. This year’s better economy, falling gas prices, and job boost have not curbed this issue. According to the data collected by the Department of Education, homeless students shot up 43 percent from 17,539 in 2011-12 to 25,114 in 2013-14. This year it is expected to increase in numbers. These numbers are critical, and they tell me that some teens are not covered by the umbrella of the Department of Human Services and Child Welfare. We can eradicate this problem; it will take strategy and finances. Please pray that God will give us the power to address and eliminate these numbers.
